Scope and Content
This is a collection of radical documentation and literature including minutes of
the National Maritime Union, 1938-1943; minutes, reports, and printed material of
the American Radio Telegraphists Association, 1935-1943; Communist Party
minutes, 1928-1929, and scattered documents from other years; random radical
newspapers and serials including The-Daily Worker, The Militant,, New America.
and Socialist.
Inclusive dates are 1927-1962 (ca.) The size is 3 linear feet.
Biographical Note
11-25-1900,
Born, Grand Rapids, Michigan
1915,
Built own ham transmitter and receiver
Completed grade school and two years high school
Western Union messenger, Post Office special delivery boy,
Day laborer; laborer on railroad construction;
Surveyor; railway mail clerk; factory office worker.
1919
Went to sea as a recruit in the wartime U.S. Shipping Board, Sea Training Bureau
on the old U.S.S. Meade, Dorothy Bradford, Gov, Dingley, Minnesota, etc,

Took up radio at the old Marconi school in Elm Place, N.Y.
1921-25
Clerk in Brooklyn General Post Office
Early organizer of Local #253, National Federation of Post Office Clerks in Brooklyn.

Returned to sea, sailed continuously on yachts, freighters
and an occasional passenger ship as radio officer or deck officer/radio officer.

Helped found and became general chairman of Radio Officers' Union (A.F.L.)
