ROBERT G. SIMMONS PAPERS
Robert G. Simmons, U.S. Representative from Nebraska, was elected as a
Republican to the 68th and 4 succeeding Congresses (1923-33). He then
returned to Lincoln, Nebraska where he resumed the practice of law and
was elected Chief Justice of Nebraska in 1938, retiring after 24 years
service in January, 1963. Significant reference material may be found
in the "weekly story" file written by Gladyce W. Simmons as the wife of a
congressman. These reports were observations on nation and international
political, social and economic affairs. They were syndicated to Nebraska
newspapers and thus read by the constituents of Congressman Simmons. He
was a loyal friend and supporter of Herbert Hoover.
