President's Commission for the Study and Review
of Conditions in Haiti, 1901-30 (4 linear
feet)
After a lengthy civil war that left Haiti
prostrate, the United States intervened in Haitian
affairs in 1915. A joint congressional resolution
of February 6, 1930, authorized the President to
conduct an investigation of conditions in Haiti and
the effect of our policies toward the island
republic. Under the leadership of W.Cameron Forbes,
the Commission held hearings in Haiti during
February and March 1930 concerning political
aspects of American intervention, social and
economic conditions, and the effectiveness of our
administration of Haitian affairs.
The records consist of minutes, reports, petitions,
and background materials submitted for the
information of the Commission, some of them dated
as early as 1901. These papers were transferred
from Record Group 220, Records of Temporary
Committees, Commissions, and Boards, at the
National Archives. Related papers may be found in
the State Department portion of the Cabinet Offices
series, in the Secretary's File series, and in the
Countries subseries of the Foreign Affairs series,
all in the Presidential Papers subgroup.
President's Committee on the Conservation and
Administration of the Public Domain, 1918-37

This series concerns the committee's investigation
and recommendations for a revision of policies
governing the administration of the public domain.
These papers were transferred from Record Group 220
at the National Archives. They are arranged
according to a numerical classification scheme.

of the Cabinet Office series.
President's Organization on Unemployment Relief,

This series contains electrostatic copies of
selected files from the organization's records in
the National Archives (Record Group 73, Records of
the President's Organization on Umemployment
Relief). Files selected for copying include the
Organization's central files and records and files
of various divisions and sections. A detailed
description is available in National Archives
Preliminary Inventory 137, which has been
incorporated in the finding aid for this series.
