STATES FILE SERIES
Scope and Content Note
The States File reflects local activities in various field offices of the federal
government. Subjects within this series include complaints from the public and general
administrative matters such as the acquisition and disposition of federal properties,
contracts for services, and the construction of federal buildings and installations. These
files also reflect partonage considerations, particularly in regard to federal marshalls and
prohibition enforcement agents.
Other interesting files concern the movement for Philippine independence
("Philippines: Philippine Independence") and the emotionally and racially charged
situation growing out of the Massie kidnap/Murder case in Hawaii ("Hawaii:
Correspondence").
Arrangement is alphabetical by name of state or federal territory and there under
by cabinet department, agency, or subject.
